Sky Mobile does not currently advertise a dedicated military discount for serving personnel, veterans or reservists. There is no forces-only percentage, code or scheme run by Sky, through the Defence Discount Service or via Blue Light Card at the time of writing. Does Sky Mobile offer a military discount?

No. We checked Sky's own website, the Defence Discount Service and Blue Light Card, and none of them list a Sky Mobile military discount, armed forces discount or veterans discount. Sky's promotional pricing is aimed at new customers and runs across the whole range rather than being tied to who you are or where you work.

Sky itself has a long relationship with the forces community. The company signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2019 and, as part of that pledge, waives cancellation charges on its broadband and TV packages when a customer is posted overseas or to another part of the UK. That commitment is written around broadband and TV rather than mobile, so if you are mid-way through a Sky Mobile plan when a posting comes through, it is worth asking Sky directly whether the same goodwill applies.

In practice, the saving on Sky Mobile comes from picking the right deal at the right time. That is exactly what the offers on this page are for.

How to get the best price at Sky Mobile

2. Decide between a phone plan and SIM only. If your current handset still does the job, a SIM only plan is the cheapest way in, with 24 month plans on this page starting from £6 a month at the time of writing.
3. Pick the plan length that suits service life. Sky's one month rolling SIM plans cost a little more each month but can be cancelled with 31 days' notice, which matters if a deployment or a move abroad is likely.
4. Match the data allowance to how you actually use your phone. Unused data is not lost, so there is no need to over-buy. See the Piggybank section below.

Who is eligible

Because there is no military-only scheme, the Sky Mobile offers on this page are open to everyone in the forces community. Serving Regulars, Reservists, veterans, cadet forces adult volunteers, MOD civil servants, and spouses and partners can all use them on the same terms as any other customer. There is no ID check, no verification step and no card to hold. You will need to pass Sky's standard credit check for a phone plan, as the handset is paid for through a credit agreement.

Other ways to save at Sky Mobile

Start with the offers listed on this page, since they are the live deals and are checked regularly. Beyond those, a few features of Sky Mobile are worth understanding because they quietly cut the cost over the life of a plan.

Sky Piggybank. Any data you do not use in a month is saved automatically into your Piggybank and kept for up to 12 months. You can add it back to your SIM when you are running low, share it across up to seven SIMs on the same account, or use it for rewards and money off a new phone or accessory. For a family where one person is away on exercise half the month, that shared pool is a genuine saving.

Change your allowance as you go. Through the My Sky app you can move to a bigger or smaller data plan. A bigger plan applies straight away, and a smaller one starts from your next bill date, so you can drop down after a quiet month rather than paying for data you will not use.

Swap plans. Sky's phone deals are built around Swap. Swap12 spreads the cost of the handset over 24 months and lets you swap to a new phone from month 12. Swap24 spreads it over 36 months and lets you swap from month 24. When you swap, you send your old phone back and its value clears the remaining balance. The offers on this page show the cheapest deal we found for each model on a 36 month term with at least 25GB of data, so you can compare like with like.

Existing Sky customer perks. If you have Sky TV, streaming Sky Go, Sky Sports and Sky News on your phone does not use your mobile data allowance. Every Sky customer is also enrolled in Sky VIP for free, which brings weekly treats, free cinema screenings and tickets to sporting events, and Sky VIP Diamond customers get roaming included at no extra cost.

Roaming. For everyone else, Sky Mobile charges £2 a day to use your UK allowance in more than 120 destinations, and it switches on automatically when you land. For a short overseas exercise or a family holiday that is easy to budget for, though a long posting abroad will usually be cheaper on a local SIM.

Sky signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2019, committing to treat serving personnel, veterans and their families fairly as customers and as employees. The most useful part of that pledge for a customer is the waiver of cancellation fees on Sky broadband and TV when you are posted, and Sky has a long history of making its content available on military bases around the world. Sky Mobile runs on O2's network, which covers 99% of the UK, so coverage on and around most bases is strong. Sky does not list a BFPO delivery option for handsets, so have your phone delivered to a UK address.
