Virgin Mobile UK ceased trading as a brand on 31 August 2023. The network no longer operates independently. All Virgin Mobile customers were migrated to O2 following the formation of Virgin Media O2. If a previous Virgin Mobile SIM or contract is still in use, it is now serviced by O2.

Is Virgin Mobile Still Operating?

No. Virgin Mobile UK officially ceased operations at the end of August 2023. The migration of its approximately 3 million customers to O2 was completed without customers needing to change SIM cards or phone numbers. Virgin Mobile as a standalone brand no longer accepts new customers or manages existing accounts.

For current mobile phone deals with confirmed forces discounts, EE's military discount gives 20% off airtime for serving personnel, veterans and reservists — one of the strongest confirmed forces deals in the mobile category. The mobile phones forces discounts section covers current deals across networks.

What Replaced Virgin Mobile

O2 now serves the former Virgin Mobile customer base. Customers on Virgin Mobile contracts were moved to equivalent O2 plans with matched or enhanced allowances. O2 itself runs forces-applicable deals through DDS and directly — worth checking for current offers if switching or upgrading.

Virgin Media continues to operate as a broadband, TV and home phone provider under Virgin Media O2. For Virgin Media broadband and TV deals, the Virgin Media forces savings page covers what's currently available.

History of Virgin Mobile UK

Virgin Mobile UK launched in November 1999 as the world's first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), reselling airtime on One2One's network. It grew rapidly to four million subscribers by 2004 and listed on the London Stock Exchange the same year. Following the Virgin Media O2 merger in 2021, a decision was made to consolidate all consumer mobile services onto O2's own network. The migration began in January 2023 and was completed by 31 August 2023, at which point Virgin Mobile ceased trading.
