Planning a Trip Worth Having

There are genuine deals out there on package holidays, city breaks and last-minute getaways — you just have to know where to look. TUI and British Airways are both worth checking early in your planning. Book at the right time and a family package can come in considerably cheaper than you’d expect — enough to make a real trip viable rather than something you keep putting off.

Flexibility on dates makes a bigger difference than most people realise. Even shifting by three or four days can change the price significantly.

Somewhere to Stay

Finding decent accommodation at a fair price takes a bit of digging, but it’s worth it. Hilton has military rates that are worth a look for both UK and overseas stays. For other chains, Blue Light Card and Defence Discount Service are often your best route in. Shop around — the difference between the first result and the right result can be substantial.

Days Out

Kids are expensive at the best of times. Add in gate prices at a theme park or attraction and a family day out gets pricey fast. Alton Towers, Legoland Windsor, Chester Zoo and Disneyland Paris all have forces and veterans rates — check before you book and you’ll often save more than you’d expect across a full family ticket.

Getting There

Flights, parking and car hire have a habit of quietly doubling the cost of a trip. Locking these in early — and hunting for deals before you commit — is where a lot of the real savings are. We keep offers updated across all three.

Road trip? Don’t leave without checking your breakdown cover first. It’s one of those things that feels unnecessary right up until the moment it isn’t.

A Note for Veterans
